Life is a very creative process. We come up with ways to deal with problems and decide what our tomorrow will be. So each of us is a little director. But how to create a really standing movie from your life? Hint – in David Lynch’s new book “Catch Big Fish”. We have chosen the most vivid statements of the author of the cult series “Twin Pix”.
Sometimes it seems that nature gave some people more – it is easier for them to find answers to difficult questions, they are better versed in people and can easily navigate in difficult situations. In fact, we are all initially on equal terms – the main thing is to correctly dispose of the capabilities and skills that are laid down in us.
1. Wish
The desire to find a new idea is like a bait. When you are fishing, you should be patient. You catch a worm on a hook and wait. Desire is a bait for luring ideas.
Surprisingly, when you finally get into the light of God’s idea that you like, even if it is a very small karasik, a fragment of the image, it calls the remnants of the jamb. And you can go on the road. Other fragments will come across along the way, and now you already see a whole thing. However, it all starts with a simple desire.
2. Intuition
Life is full of abstractions, and it often has to understand it with the help of intuition. Intuition is a vision of a solution, understanding it. This is a combination of intelligence and emotions, indispensable for the director.
How can you understand what you are doing correctly? We all have the same tools: we have a camera, film, peace and actors. However, each mosaic puts each other in different ways. It is then that intuition comes to the rescue.
Personally, I believe that intuition can be developed and aggravated with meditation, plunging into itself. Inside each of us there is an ocean of awareness, ocean of solutions. Diving into it, you are making a choice.
You are not looking for a specific solution. You just strengthen intuition and already on the surface you see that something is wrong, but everything can be corrected. Over time, this ability is growing, and the matter is moving spore.
3. Dreams
I love the logic of dreams. I like where they can get us. But I have never received an idea in a dream. I found images in music, even in ordinary walks.
While working on the “blue velvet”, however, I was very tormented with the script. I wrote four different options. But the problems continued until the very end of the filming. Then one day I went to the meeting.
I went into the office, there was a secretary. I asked her to give me a piece of paper, because I suddenly remembered that I had a special dream at night. And it turned out to be three missing details of the puzzle. Unfortunately, this did not happen to me anymore.
4. Suffering
For the artist, it is important to understand suffering and stress. From them you can get the idea. But with confidence, I can only say one thing: if there are too difficulties, you cannot create. Conflict situations will simply stand in the way of your creativity. You should understand the hardships, but it’s better not to live in them.
The more the artist suffers, the less inspiration he experiences. Most likely, he will not enjoy the work and will not be able to perform it at a truly high level.
I can indicate that Vincent Van Gogh painted beautiful paintings, despite his torment or even thanks to them. I think that he would write much more paintings and would become an even greater artist if all these terrible things had not been affected by him. I do not think that the pain made it unique – on the contrary, drawing was one of the few pleasant moments in his life.
Some people believe that anger, depression and other negative things give their creativity a certain piquancy. They think that they should hold on to fear and anger, only to put them in the work. They don’t like the thought of happiness. They are simply sick of such an idea, as if happiness will deprive them of uniqueness or power.
If you are an artist, you simply must know about anger, but at the same time you should not experience restrictions that he brings with him. To create, you need energy, you need clarity. You must be able to catch ideas. You must be a strong person to deal with incredible pressure and stress of this huge world.
5. Inner Light
Negative emotions are like darkness. What is darkness? You look at her and understand that she is nothing. This is the absence of something. You turn on the light. Darkness retreats.
But the sun’s rays do not help get rid of a negative mood. They drive darkness. What light you need to turn on in this case? Of course, the light of pure consciousness, the light of oneself, the light of unity.
Do not fight dark. Don’t worry about her. Turn on the light and the darkness will retreat. Free the light of pure consciousness – it will leave a negative attitude.
You can say: fresh legend. But this is the real truth.
6. Restrictions
Sometimes it is the restrictions that make the mind work. If you have a lot of money, you can relax and solve any problem with their help. You don’t need to think a lot and intensely. But when you are restricted, you have to come up with creative and inexpensive solutions.
My friend Gary d’Amiko works with special effects. He loves to blow up everything. It was he who destroyed the house in the film “Highway to nowhere”. And he did not even have the necessary funds! And I had no idea that we would blow up the house. Production manager asked me if we would demolish him if we need something from the set. And I asked: “To demolish?»The thought process turned on immediately. I went to Gary: “What will happen if I want to blow up the house?»His face was lit up.
He replied: “It would be good you told me early. I don’t know what I have in stock. Although … yes.
Yes, we will do it!”He went inside and used everything that remained in his tanning. It was just fine. If he knew in advance, we would not have succeeded in such an effect. The explosion was soft. Things scattered a hundred feet. And then we put the frames in the reverse order. It turned out wonderful.
7. beauty
When you see an old building or a rusty bridge, you observe the process of cooperation of man and nature. If you paint the building, the magic will disappear. However, if he is allowed to age, it means that both a person and nature are involved in the process. This is so natural.
However, people do not come to mind. The exception is rare decorators artists.
8. Keep the rhythm
This is a very difficult thing. You want to engage in art, but you need to live on something. Therefore, you have a job, and sometimes there is no strength for art left.
But if you really love him, you will continue no matter what. I was very lucky. On my way I met people who sought to help. You get help because you have achieved something, and it is very important not to stop.
Yes, I was accompanied by luck. But what will I say: find a job that will leave you time, get enough sleep, eat and work. A lot of pleasure in doing what you love. Perhaps you will open doors, and you will find a way to create on an ongoing basis. I hope so it will be.
